I wonder if my husband will see this blog post on his own...I doubt it...he has a hard time knowing how to turn on electronics except for his TV's...but I still love him dearly! Maybe I'll print this out for him...well then that will mean he would have to go on etsy.com to purchase them...hmmmm, I guess I'll have to figure this one out...maybe leave him a love note with my username and password and of course some money in my paypal account.. lol!

Anyway, enough of me blabbing...over the past year I have been "hearting" a bunch of handmade goodies on etsy.com so I thought I would share them with you.

The letter R - Love it...this would be perfect in our living room on our wall that I want to decorate.

Love love love this top from JoClothing...she is a local designer here in Grand Rapids and I just love her items.

There is something sexy about a chunky mans watch on a women...call me crazy but I like the look! Carol from Creativeurges is another local artist that has all handmade leather goods.

Yes, I know...I haven't been blogging in a long time. I took on a lot this fall with my kids school and hockey teams so I had to let some things go, but I'm getting into a groove again where I am managing my time a lot better. You will be hearing from me more often.

Sew Spoiled Smart Pocket Pattern Review

A couple of weeks ago I got the privilege to do a pattern review for

Sew Spoiled's Smart Pocket!

here's Leah...isn't she the cutest!!

I absolutely loved this pattern. Leah does a fabulous job with pictures, details, material lists (which I should have went by better), and just the overall flow of the pattern.

Each step has multiple pictures and tons of details.

I gathered my supplies:

I cut all of the pieces out....this is where I should have been smarter. I used fusible fleece interfacing, when I should have just used what Leah recommended....LIGHTWEIGHT interfacing. I also used a heavier duty zipper, thinking that it was cuter. I'd just stick to the multipurpose one. Mine had too much bulk.

The strap was super easy to figure out. Leah had a wonderful calculation right on the pattern to figure out where you should cut it at. Mine was 20". Again the pictures and details were spot on!

I do have to admit that I have never made a key fob like this one. I usually use webbing and then sew the fabric on top. With this one, you use fabric for both pieces and some heavy duty interfacing. It turned out stunning...LOVE IT!

I really had NO PROBLEMS with this pattern. I just should have followed her materials list better with the interfacing and zipper.

It took me about an hour and half from start to finish.

Here is my end result...going to go use it right now on my afternoon run! TA TA!

HIGH LOW GAME

Ok, so I'm going to do a new HIGH LOW GAME like I did here.

High - kids last week of school

Low - Oldest has been sick all week, missed two days of school

High - Pool is open

Low - Oldest has swimmers ear to go along with his bronchitis so he can't swim

High - Baseball is going great for both boys

Low - They seem to have games on the same nights so I don't get to see them both play

High - Youngests soccer team is undefeated this season.

Low - He has a soccer tournament this weekend and we will be missing 3 graduation parties that we really needed to be at! :(

High - A new skirt in the shop!

Low - everyone is ordering the same one...may run out of this fabric! AHHH!

High - I was just elected PTC co-president at my kids school.

Low - I hope I do just as good as the last president...she rocked!!

High - Had my second show of the season...MSU Spring Arts and Crafts show.

Low - Didn't do as well as last year...bummer!

High - Lots of new items coming to the shop next week!

High - Can't wait to sleep in on Monday!

Kitchen Inspiration

I absolutely love Kitchens...too bad I don't use them that often! LOL!

Anyway, the hubs and I are looking to redo ours. Not sure what we want to do or when we will do it but the picture below is something we want to go by.

We currently have white cabinets and would love to add the island and maybe move the appliances around. I love the dark floors too. Right now we have white and I absolutely HATE it!

I'd also love to have this in the entry way for the boys!!

High Low Game

Do you ever play the game “high and low”? Do you know what it is? Well then let me tell you about it. Our family usually does it at the dinner table, asking each person in the family their high and low of the day. It is a great conversation starter and I love hearing about the kids days. So with that in mind, I'm going to play it with you guys....here are my highs and lows from last week:

high – Spring Break in St. Thomas!

low – seriously thought we were going to crash on the flight to Ft. Lauderdale

high – got to take the boys to St. John, my favorite place in the whole world.

low – my boys hated St. John....sniff sniff..

high – found a new favorite beer from St. John's Brewery called Island Summer Ale

low – I only had 3 of them last week.

high – Sat next to Joe Montana in a little cafe in St. Thomas

low – didn't get his autograph or picture

high – flights home were good - THANK GOD

low – came back to a lot of horrible news...friends and family members need prayers!

high – revamping my website this week.

high – 1st show of the season this week.

New Year...New Goals!

Happy New Year!

Well I would like to start off this post by wishing everybody a Happy New Year! I hope everybody had a great New Years Eve.

I would also like to welcome all of my new followers and thank you so much for following me. I have to say that I still find this blogging to be a little nerve wracking.... Will what I write be interesting, will anybody really want to read about me and my life! But I am finding this to be a good way to get myself going, knowing that I have followers and people waiting for my next post or so I hope! So this year I will continue to do better at blogging, maybe some tutorials and giveaways!

In my last post I mentioned that I would be writing about goals and resolutions for the new year. Last week my son had a speaker at his hockey practice and he talked about having SMART goals. I thought to myself, "well all my goals are smart otherwise I wouldn't make them goals - tee hee!" But he wasn't talking about that, he broke the SMART down and into the following:

Specific - A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. To set a specific goal you must answer the six "W" questions:

*Who: Who is involved?

*What: What do I want to accomplish?

*Where: Identify a location.

*When: Establish a time frame.

*Which: Identify requirements and constraints.

*Why: Specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.

EXAMPLE: A general goal would be, "Get in shape." But a specific goal would say, "Join a health club and workout 3 days a week."

Measurable - Establish concrete criteria for measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal you set. When you measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to continued effort required to reach your goal.

To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as......How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished?

Attainable - When you identify goals that are most important to you, you begin to figure out ways you can make them come true. You develop the attitudes, abilities, skills, and financial capacity to reach them. You begin seeing previously overlooked opportunities to bring yourself closer to the achievement of your goals.

You can attain most any goal you set when you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that may have seemed far away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match them. When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.

Realistic - To be realistic, a goal must represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to work. A goal can be both high and realistic; you are the only one who can decide just how high your goal should be. But be sure that every goal represents substantial progress. A high goal is frequently easier to reach than a low one because a low goal exerts low motivational force. Some of the hardest jobs you ever accomplished actually seem easy simply because they were a labor of love.

Your goal is probably realistic if you truly believe that it can be accomplished. Additional ways to know if your goal is realistic is to determine if you have accomplished anything similar in the past or ask yourself what conditions would have to exist to accomplish this goal.

Timely - A goal should be grounded within a time frame. With no time frame tied to it there's no sense of urgency. If you want to lose 10 lbs, when do you want to lose it by? "Someday" won't work. But if you anchor it within a timeframe, "by May 1st", then you've set your unconscious mind into motion to begin working on the goal.

T can also stand for Tangible - A goal is tangible when you can experience it with one of the senses, that is, taste, touch, smell, sight or hearing. When your goal is tangible you have a better chance of making it specific and measurable and thus attainable.

I was surfing around the internet this past week when I came across a wonderful article on resolutions and reflections from Simple Mom.net. It talkes about how most resolutions are pointless and broad...basically you are setting your self up for failure. But when they’re specific, productive, and attainable, resolutions can truly be a catalyst in your life for some healthy changes.

I'm not sure how I feel about New Year's resolutions, to me it's goal setting and I really have no clue on how to do that, but I'm willing to try! Since I've been in business I've just gone with the flow but I've come to the conclusion that I need to set some goals and go after them. I need to make some concrete decisions and run with them.

They also listed 20 questions about reflection. They say to set goals you should reflect back to see what you've done and how things can change or grow.

So I'm going to take a moment to answer some of these questions below and journal about them. How about you?

Today I am 40. Not sure how I feel about that. Somedays I think "awww, that's just a number", others I think "holy crap am I old"! Not a whole lot of people are making it easy....lots of teasing, especially from my children. NICE!! But my hubby is very understanding...he knows better because he has a HUGE birthday coming up in March. Today will be nice because I get to spend the day with him. Not sure what we are going to do but we will have fun figuring it out!! He knows me well so he won't let me down!!

Also, in order for you to know me better, I thought I would write a list of 40 different things about me, that maybe you didn't know! Enjoy and don't laugh too hard....

1. I'm obsessed with jeans with flap pockets on the back...I think they make anyones butt look good!
2. I love beer. The darker the better.
3. I love shoes, even thought I have really wide feet in which it is a total bitch to find cute shoes.
4. I love to laugh.
5. I love summer time, sunshine and being pool side in my backyard...it's my favorite time of the year.
6. I'm obsessed with Nickleback....love their music.
7. I love being connected all of the time...facebook, twitter, e-mail.
8. I take my jewelry off the minute I walk in the door...maybe that is because I'm wearing about 10 pieces and feel like it's choking me!
9. I love not having to go into work each day.
10. Chocolate milk rocks.
11. I love a great deal.
12. I'm a fabric-a-holic. I have more than I'll ever be able to use but I am putting a dent into it.
13. I only recently accepted the fact that I'm a creative person.
14. I have more bath and body products under my sink than a Bath and Body Works store.
15. Princess Bride is my favorite movie of all time.
16. I hate cooking...maybe it's because I don't know how.
17. I love to eat sunflower seeds. Dill pickle flavor is my favorite.
18. I secretly want to be a bodybuilder.
19. I love chewy Sweettarts.
20. I LOVE watching my kids play sports.
21. I love watching my kids grow up but dang is the time flying by!
22. I hate cleaning my house.
23. I have a huge cupboard full of Tupperware.
24. I look in the mirror sometimes and see my mother.
25. I miss playing volleyball.
26. I love being married to a man that thinks I'm the cats meow...I think the same of him too!
27. I'm beyond thrilled that I only have boys.
28. I love playing sports but cannot stand watching them on TV.
29. I would love to have a whole house of Pottery Barn furniture and nick nacks.
30. I will be an Island Girl someday, preferably St. John, USVI!
31. I can't sleep by myself...I like to have a body next to me. Preferably my husband, but when he is away I'll take my kids.
32. I have to cover up at night. Can't have my feet hanging out because the boogie monster might eat them.
33. I hate carrying purses...weird huh? Cause I make them!
34. I want to learn how to play the stock market.
35. I miss my Dad and my brother Chuck, I wish they were both still alive and with us today.
36. I hate having my family all over the US...I just wish they would all move back to West Michigan.
37. I want to open up my own fabric store and sell local handmade items too.
38. I cringe when someone bites their silverware....oye, it gives me chills just thinking about it!
39. When I eat too much, I just want to take a shower and relax...weird, I know!
40. I'm a very optimistic person....my glass is always 1/2 full! I never used to be that way, but I guess the older I get the wiser I get.

There you have it...40 things about me on my 40th birthday. That took a lot of thinking...dang my brain is drained. I think I might go crack open a beer and toast to another 40!

Labor Day and 1st day of School

Labor day...the last day of summer...what a bummer. I'm not happy but I guess I have to live with it. I'm going to miss the lazy days of summer...sleeping in, laying by the pool, doing a whole lot of NOTHING!

We decided to go out with a bang and have a Low Country Boil...dang was it yummy. Crab legs, shrimp, mussels, potatos, sausage and corn on the cob. Did I say it was yummy? Yup, it was yummy!

The boys got crazy in the pool after dinner!

Tuesday was the 1st day of school. Big T is now in 5th grade and Little T is in 3rd. I am so excited for them this year. They both have GREAT teachers, of course the whole school is great! I couldn't have asked for a better school for my babies! Love them!

Small Bolsa in Pillow and Maxfield

A for a sneak peak for the Fall....a new style and new fabric! I've been playing around with some new interfacing, heavier fabric and some new styles. I took this style from my mother in law...she had a kick butt black leather purse so I just traced it on parchement paper and whipped it up one afternoon. I love it!! Don't you? Now to name it! Hmmmm....any thoughts?

Oh summer...I wish it could last forever.

My babies just finished their baseball league....UNDEFEATED!!! WOO HOO! They were unreal this year. What a great bunch of kids, parents and coaches!

I've been sewing up a storm lately but wanted to make something for myself to wear to the art fairs that I am participating in. So I found a cute pattern by Frog Legs and Ponytails and whipped one up. I got so many compliments that I thought I would put it in the shop. Well the first week went by and I got 20 orders! HOLY COW PEEPS, you are going to be keeping me busy!!

I also added some new fabric collections to the Summer Fabric Choices and they are going over very well!

Well, I'm off to cut out the tops!!

Getting a new car....

Woo hoo! So tomorrow is the big day...I'm getting my new Ford Escape!

It's silver - so it won't show the dirt!

black leather interior - so my boys can spill stuff and I won't see it!

sun roof - so I can feel the wind whipping through my hair

sync system - so we all can say "Play Artist _____" and it will play it!!

navigational system - so I don't get lost!

4x4 - so I can plow through my street that never gets plowed in the winter

V6 - so it has some get up and go!

Some features I wish it came with....a built in trash compactor so I don't have to pick up the trash, a built in vacuum so it can suck all the crumbs from my boys as they drop. Some how I don't think Ford makes these kinds of features but it would be nice, wouldn't it??

I might just have to take my Mod Moble stuff out of my hubby's car and put it in mine.

(Or just get a new set)

Mod Podge...oh how I love it!! A Simple Coaster Tutorial!

Here is a simple project you can do with your kids this summer - Mod Podge coasters!! These would make a great Father's Day present for the Man Cave. Just use some manly scrapbooking paper instead of the pretty floral I used! ;)

Supplies needed:

Scrapbook Paper

Cutter

Mod Podge

Paint Brush

Tiles (I used some left over from a bathroom project 4.5 x 4.5)

Felt Dots

Step #1 - Cut your paper out to 4 x 4"

Step #2 - Brush a layer of Mod Podge on the tile.

Step #3 - Place your cut paper onto the tile...center it.

Step #4 - Brush another layer of Mod Podge on the paper. Be sure not to over saturate...it may cause bubbling. If that occurs, just try to smooth it out while it's still wet.

Step #5 - Set aside and do another one! Repeat another layer of Mod Podge once they are all dry.

Step #6 - Apply felt dots on all 4 corners on the bottom of the tile!

Sit back and enjoy you new coasters!

Just after Christmas I made this lovely throw for our living room.

Well after I posted it on my facebook, I was asked to do one for a friend of mine's little girl! He said her favorite colors are pink and purple...I thought it turned out pretty cute!!

I used a ton of scraps on this project. I think I might add these to my store now as a custom order, no two alike kinda thing!! It's a great way to get rid of scraps too! What do you think?

...for those of you who know me, know that I'm not a tidy person. I struggle with clutter everyday and I'm sick of it! So last night while tinkering on Twitter I started chatting with Melissa at Haut Totes and she directed me to her wonderful blog about Taming Your Creative Spaces. I just about flipped when I saw her fabric stash....WOW! Anyhow my goal for the new year is to Tame My Space and do it quickly as possible.

Here is a current picture of my mess. I haven't seen my floor in a few months, I'm sure I have fabric down there that I've never seen before. Very sad...I know. So the next picture will be of a very well organized studio that I can actually find stuff in!

Well this week was quite wild....my oldest turned 10, we had a hockey Christmas gathering, hockey camp and now Christmas...wowza!

Saturday we had a hockey Christmas gathering which was a great time. The first picture is coach Jim in the middle of all the guys going over some game footage. It was quite comical because most of them had swords and guns in their hands...Yikes, don't mess with our team!

Sunday, we went bowling for T's birthday and had a great time!

Monday we suprised T with smiley faces in the front yard from our friends that run www.flamingodaves.com. It was awesome. He was diggin' it!

The last couple of days he's been on the ice learning to power skate! But tomorrow we all get to sleep in! AHHHHHHHH, can't wait.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and rememeber HE IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

I am still here, just been super busy with some home shows and getting my inventory up. Also, hockey is in full swing and we are at two different arenas, two different schedules and loads of running around. Big T's team is undeafeted so far and Little T's team has just won once and what a win that was! It's been a blast watching them play. We've got a few tournaments coming up around the holidays, so that should be fun.

Artprize...a little late!

Last month, Grand Rapids turned into an art gallery...it was awesome. Artprize was the first of its kind, it was an open art contest with the largest prize attached to it. Tons of art was on display all over the city and the public got to vote on who won. We made it downtown for one of the last weekends it was around...they just announced the top 10 the day before we went. Here are some pics from our little adventure.

And I finally have time to blog about it....how sad is that?

First of all, I want to thank everyone who sent their condolences to me after my dad passed away last month. We are all doing great...we miss him dearly but God needed him more. On the evening of his passing for the first time ever I saw a full rainbow. Never have I ever seen a FULL one but on that night when I saw it...I knew it was him "saying I'm home....no need to worry about me now!" A week later our family was coming out of the ice arena and there again was the brightest and biggest FULL rainbow ever. The first thing out of Little T's mouth was "hi Grandpa". I burst into tears again and held my family tight. Rainbows rock!

Second of all, I've had lots of orders going out the door....some very lovely combos too!

Thirdly, school started this monday. OMG! My big T is in the 4th grade and my little T is in the 2nd grade. Big T just started hockey too...we just got notification that he made the team we were hoping for! Way to go T!!! Little T started soccer in August and is loving it. His first game is this weekend. Go BABES!!

Last but not least I had the honor of doing some bridesmaids gifts for a lovely bride that I met at FSAM this summer. I think they turned out flippin' cute! I've also listed them in my shop!

....sorry! I have been so busy with orders and jewelry conferences and kids home and craft shows and and and......well you get the drift! ;)

We've been floating and playing and creating this summer, which has been a lot of fun! I did come up with a new handbag too....the grommet bag. It's just a simple tote with grommets and fabric handles tied in a knot....lots of compliments on it!

Hopefully when I have more time to catch up on my inventory I will stock some in my store. In the meantime enjoy the rest of your summer!

Here is my newest creation....look for it in my etsy shop soon. This bag is great for the beach. It can hold several towels and munchies for a fun filled day. You could also use it for a carry on or for a weekend away. It's 20 x 17 with a two way zipper.

Handbags for Heros - Etsy CABTeam

I am a proud member of the CABTeam {Carried Away Bag Maker Team on Etsy). Our team is 203 members strong and growing every day. We opened this team shop so that we could give back to those in need. All proceeds are given to charities voted on by our team members.

Our first team challenge is to create a bag that represented our personal feelings about the word "freedom". We are so excited to be able to show our appreciation for freedom by helping make life on the front lines a little easier for one of our fighting girls! The proceeds from all bags sold in this shop will go to send care packages to deployed military ladies through herobox.org.

Currently there are 8 bags for sale in the shop with more to come. My bag is still in my head at this moment...I need to start working on it this week. Feel free to stop by and check it out and spread the word.

HeroBox is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides custom support to our heroes overseas. Their mission is to provide items that deployed American soldiers need and want while they are away from home defending our freedom. A HeroBox is a care package that has been customized to a soldiers specific request. The troops have certain needs and wants depending on their sex, location, and a variety of other factors. The typical care package that a soldier receives isn't always influenced by those needs and wants. The goal is to make sure that each HeroBox is directly influenced by the soldier.

...I love this time of the year. We've been working on our Pool House for the last month and have got it up and running. We added some cool artwork from our Niece in the entryway. I think it looks pretty cool and goes quite well with the stained glass window in the back that my friend Gina did. My husband also added some granite countertops to go outside and inside to make a bar area and yes he added a TV. OYE!! The man cannot get away from his TV! Oh well, it's kinda cool cause I can hook up the Direct TV to the outdoor speakers and play music from the XM channels....yeah baby!

Only thing left to do is to recover the bar stools...I don't do PPG vinyl barstools. HA! I just picked up some very cool red and white outdoor fabric to cover them up. After that we can sit back and enjoy the backyard.
